Project Overview
Snip Snap was created as part of the Global Game Jam 2021, the theme that year was ‘Lost and Found’.
When starting this jam, we wanted the gameplay mechanic to be unique, we felt a pitfall of the theme was defaulting to ‘fetch quests’. This led to the idea of using a magic camera that can snap pictures of objects to store them within, with the option to produce an image to return the object to the real world again.
For this jam we also had decent numbers on our team, with a lot creating art assets. So we decided to create a seaside town with NPCs and puzzles to solve using the core gameplay mechanic.
In one of the puzzles you need to identify a car that isn’t parked correctly to find and item underneath. Using the camera you can snap the car away!
Project Scope
Based off of what has been mentioned so far, this one was a bit over scoped for the couple of days we had. Being my second game jam, we still hadn’t quite figured out the correct project size for the two days, I can’t fault us for being ambitious though.
Although, what we did get finished was quite interesting, and the experience itself was a lot of fun, which I feel is the primary aim of participating in game jams.
I think over time my ability to understand the scope of projects has improved a lot, with game jams like these teaching me some important lessons that are representative in my future projects!
